On 17 March, the Government announced that if you are a first home buyer buying a property with a value less than $500,000 then you will get a 50% concession on the duty you have to pay. Until 17 March, that concession was only for properties up to $400,000. It takes effect immediately but is subject to the passage of the enabling legislation. So you pay the duty in full but can apply for a refund once the legislation has passed.
